Our programs emphasize mastering the underlying
fundamental concepts of the computing sciences as a
foundation for carrers as computing professional and advanced studies in the computing sciences.
Building on a firm base of theory, we emphasize software engineering in its fullest sense. This involves a concern for evolution of software throughout the entire system life cycle: analysis, system specification, design, implementation, testing, and planning for the continued maintenance and future modifications of the system. We are interested in applying the state-of-the-art in software methodologies to create well-documented software systems that solve problems. The University has had a major in Computer Science since 1970 making it one of the oldest programs in Pennsylvania. Over 500 graduates of our program hold positions in software development or management. We currently offer three programs, two at the baccalaureate level and one at the masters level. Come and visit us. The University is an active place when classes are in session. The department is located on the fourth floor of the Harper McGinnis wing of St. Thomas Hall. The departmental labs are also located in this area. When you visit, stop by the department office (St. Thomas 483). The secretary will find a faculty member to give you a tour of our facilities and answer your questions about the program. Appointments may be made by calling the department at (570) 941-7774. We can also be reached by fax (570)941-4250, or e-mail at cmps@cs.scranton.edu. |
