Welcome
I am a Software Engineering Graduate Student of the University of Scranton. This blog is where I'll be posting my progress on my Thesis project, a game-inspired software system that can be utilized for music education. It will be written in C++ utilizing OpenGL for 2D rendering, SDL for event and input handling, and Apple's Core Audio for audio device input and audio playback. Eventually I'd like to get a sourceforge.net page once I make binaries and source available for download. Also, I'd like to make the code runnable on Win and Linux machines as well, so I'd like to create code using other audio device libraries.
The final project will be a program that will let you play along with MIDI files using either a MIDI device or a wave capturing device, like a microphone or auxiliary input. It should be similar to rhythm games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but with real musical notation. Any feedback, documentation/tutorial links, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope to see what you think!
