MATH 103
Recommended problems from Exercise Set 3.3 (in Faires & DeFranza)
- Do a few from the group 1-6.
- Do a few from the group 7-12.
- Do a few from the group 13-18, including either 17 or 18.
- Do a few from the group 19-28.
- Do a few from the group 29-32.
Hint: The graphs of f and g intersect at
x=c iff f(c) = g(c), which is equivalent to
f(c) - g(c) = 0, which is equivalent to (f-g)(c) = 0.
That is, the problem of determining where f and g
intersect is nothing more than the problem of determining the zeros
of the function (f-g)!
- Do a few from 33-37.
Answers to the odd-numbered problems appear near the back of the textbook.
