C/IL 102L Lab Information
The following is a general outline of the lab assignments for
the semester.
The assignments dealing with Microsoft Office will use Go! with Microsoft Office 2007 Introductory and myITLab
software which come as part of the textbook package for C/IL 102 and
lab. All of the work on office will be done in the following general
manner:
There are tests for each of the three software
packages that you will take. The scores on these tests will NOT count
towards the course grade. When you take these tests they will tell you
what material you missed and give you the option of going through myITLab Training
modules to learn that material as well as give you references in the
lab text on that material. You will be responsible for doing
the work to learn this material BEFORE coming to the appropriate lab. Each
unit (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Integration) consists of several
Projects. You will be assigned several projects from each unit. During
the lab session you will perform some of the tasks of these projects. The work will be turned in
to your instructor for grading. For each document that you print give
the document a header or footer with your name, your instructor's name,
and your section number. Your instructor will show you how to do this.
When you turn in each assignment your instructor will give you a test
on that module WHICH WILL COUNT toward your grade on that project.
- Lab 1 - Intro to Lab and Windows
- Dates: February 2 - 6
- Specifics: General work with windows. This will
probably be a review for almost all of the students.
- Specifics: You will learn the Campus E-mail system and how to contact your instructor.
- Lab 2 - E-mail, Web Introduction, myITLab registration
- Dates: February 9 - 13
- Specifics:
Students will become familiar with my.scranton.edu and it's e-mail and resources capabilities. The specific
handout information is available
here
- The answer sheet is available here
- Specifics: You will register for myITLab. To do so you must bring your PIN to class. If you fail to so so you will be sent back to your dorm to get it or to the bookstore to buy the material. Your grade will suffer.
- Lab 3 - Web Page Creation
- Word, Excel, PowerPont labs
- The two Word labs as well as both Excel labs and the PowerPoint lab will use myITLab. Your instructor will show you how to log on to the myITLab site. Your access should have been set up. There should be separate folders for each of the labs on the myITLab site. Within these folders there should be separate folders for the individual chapters being ciovered.
- Each Chapter lab contains a required PowerPoint slide show that you should view before coming to lab. Your instructor will be able to tell if you watched this PowerPoint presentation and how long you spent on it. So if you blow it off your grade may suffer.
- There are several other items in each folder some of which are optional and some of which are required. There is always a required test, which you should take in lab. For most chapters there are other non-required tests that you can take as practice for the required test or as a pretest to test your knowledge of the material in the chapter. There are also training modules to teach you the material in the chapter. One of the excellent methods that you can use to learn the material for most chapters is a study plan which consists of a pre-test (to determine what you know), a training session to teach you the things that you missed on the pre-test, and a post-test to shiow you what you know about the chapter. If you choose to use the study play you should probably do so outside of class since it will probably gtake more time than you have for all the things to be done.
