CMPS 202     Web Development
Assignments for Spring Semester 2009

Final Project

Due no later than the beginning of class, May 6.
Create a link from your home page to a sub-site of your page. Name this link Project. You may want to create a subdirectory of public_html to put your project in. This project should be integrated and thematic. It's purpose is to impress me with what you have learned this semester. It will not impress me if you put every thing that you learned in the project, e.g. scrolling messages. You will probably want the project to run in a separate window from the rest of your site.

When you have decided what you want the theme of the site to be and how you want to organize it you should meet with me to discuss it so that I can give you a formal approval for the project. You must receive this formal approval from me to receive full credit for the work. You should probably schedule the meeting with me for a month before the project is due. If you fail to schedule a meeting with me or schedule it with me so that we have not met by April 8 your course grade will be lowered by one position and you will be required to take the final exam. That is, for example, if you do not meet with me by April 8 regarding your project and the final course grade that you earned is a B+ then you will actually receive a B.

All projects will be presented to the class. Presentations will be scheduled for the last two weeks of class, on Monday May 4 through Wednesday May 13. Your presentation should last from 20 to 30 minutes and should include not only a demonstration of your project but also comments on the problems you had in creation of the site and the solutions you found for these problems.

After I have viewed this site I will offer you a grade in the course and you can use that information to determine if you wish to take the final exam.
All assignments, unless otherwise specified are to be put on your web space for the course and should be accessible from your home page for this class or from a contents page that is accessible from that home page. Each assignment should be accessible from the page by 11:00 pm on the day that it is due unless otherwise specified.

Creating A Webpage in Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is the industry standard Website design and implementation tool. One of the goals of this class is to allow you to be comfortable using Dreamweaver so that you can use it for designing and creating Web sites. The lab in T-486 has two computers which have Dreamweaver MX2004 installed that you can use for this assignmement. You can also download a copy of the most recent version of Dreamweaver from Adobe's WebSite. You will then have to buy the software or remove it from your machine within 30 days. The educational price is about 200 dollars. I will use Dreamweaver to do some of the design in class. For other work I will use other software. To learn the basics of Dreamweaver you should go through the entire Creating a Web Page in Dreamweaver book and post the intermediate and final results on a sub-page of your Web site. This assignment should be finished by the end of February.
